A Cosmic South West Collaboration: True Love and Wormholes

At All Set West, we’re always thrilled to see our region shine on screen, so we’re over the moon to celebrate True Love and Wormholes, a South West–made short film now available on BBC iPlayer.

Maggie’s from the West Country; Craig’s from the Future. Together they might just save the planet. He’s funny, intense, impossible to resist… but the closer Maggie gets, the more she suspects there’s more to his story. As their connection deepens, so does the danger—blurring the lines between reality and imagination, the everyday and the extraordinary, betrayal and true love.

The film is part of Long Story Short, a vibrant new collection of seven original short films championing fresh voices from across the UK. Each piece brings an exciting, distinctive perspective from emerging writers – alumni of BBC Writers’ talent development work – and the South West’s contribution was produced by Bristol‑based Production Company, Indefinite Films.

Shot on location in Weston‑Super‑Mare, the production worked closely with the brilliant team at the North Somerset Film Office and created real opportunities for local production talent including two All Set West Trainees, Zubair Niwaz who joined the project as a Floor Runner and Jon-Luke Goodman as Script Supervisor.

Jon-Luke said of the experience:

“I had a wonderful time working on True Love and Wormholes, it was such a delight to work on a short film about the South West, actually shot in the South West! All Set West not only helped me develop the skills needed to walk onto set confidently but also offers productions an accessible pool of entry-level trainees ready to work while setting the bar in advocating for open transparency in hiring and investment in upcoming talent to production companies.

In addition to supporting the film shoot, we were also proud to bring a special local screening to Weston – super – Mare in partnership with local community organisation Super Culture. Students, filmmakers and Weston locals came together to enjoy the film, followed by a Q&A with Gerard from the North Somerset Film Office and a screening and discussion with local filmmaker Gemma Reynolds.

A huge thank you to Kate Cook and the Indefinite Films team for an inspiring collaboration – proof of what our region can create when we champion local voices and work together.
