Introducing All Set West: a new era for regional talent

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of All Set West — our bold new skills package designed to power up careers, grow connections and unlock opportunities behind the camera for talent across the West of England.

Funded by the BFI, awarding National Lottery funding, All Set West is here to support those ready to take their first steps into film and TV.

All Set West’s package of support spans our unique online Hub, entry-level Training programme and the Outreach activity we’re taking into schools and communities. We’re here to champion a stronger, more inclusive screen industry, rooted right here in our region.

Made for the West, by the West

The West of England has always been rich in storytelling – and today it’s a hotbed of filming action. From the creative streets of Bristol, a UNESCO City of Film, to the scenic coastlines of North Somerset, the historic beauty of Bath & North East Somerset or the stately homes and estates of South Gloucestershire, you won’t travel far without spotting a film crew bringing stories to life.

But local talent can’t grow without opportunities.

All Set West is all about supporting that. We’re backing people from backgrounds currently underrepresented in the industry to step into roles on set — from costume and camera to production and locations.

“We are committed to ensuring more local people benefit from employment created by productions filming in the region using freelance crew. All Set West is a bespoke package of interventions that creates that pathway into entry-level positions.”Laura Aviles, Head of Film, The Bottle Yard Studios & Bristol Film Office

Sharing voices, opening doors

The West of England’s screen sector is growing — and we want to make sure everyone has a seat at the table. All Set West is about representation, access and visibility. Developing on the success and learning from our pilot – the Film/High-end TV Workforce Development Programme delivered at The Bottle Yard Studios throughout 2024, we’re building a route into scripted production for local, diverse talent.

“Working in Film and TV felt unattainable to me before the course and there were so many barriers stopping me from being able to work in the industry, not even knowing where to start for one.” All Set West pilot trainee

From the smallest rural towns to the region’s largest production hub at The Bottle Yard Studios, we’re celebrating the full spectrum of talent the West of England has to offer — and creating a clear path for those who want to work behind the camera, but don’t know where to start.

The buzz starts now

It’s a good time to become part of the screen industries in the West of England. Scripted production is booming. Studios are expanding. Stories are being told in new, exciting ways — and the call for fresh talent behind the camera is louder than ever.

All Set West is here to answer that call — with training that’s grounded in the realities of set life, backed by industry professionals, and inspired by the passion and potential of our communities.

So, whether you’re keen to pick up a boom for the first time or shadow in a script meeting, All Set West is your invitation to get involved.

Because the future of film and TV is being made, every day, right here in the West.

All Set West is funded by the BFI National Lottery Places Fund and delivered by Bristol City Council’s Film Services (The Bottle Yard Studios, Bristol UNESCO City of Film and Bristol Film Office) in partnership with the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.
