ScreenSkills success for our first alumni
There’s a buzz in the air at All Set West, as we’re celebrating the success of Jon-Luke Goodman, Kaitlyn Jarrett-Barnes, Romy Robbins and Sophie Kirk — four of our very first Training alumni, who have secured places on the highly competitive ScreenSkills Trainee Finder scheme.
Each year, this national programme selects new entrants from across the country, matching them with paid placements on some of the UK’s biggest productions, including Children’s TV, Film and High-end TV.
For Jon-Luke, Kaitlyn, Romy and Sophie – all from the West of England – this is a huge leap forward. It’s more than just a foot in the door; it’s a launchpad into the working world of TV production.

All four were a part of All Set West’s pilot training scheme that ran at The Bottle Yard Studios throughout 2024. “It’s nice to feel that you’re not alone in your hunt for work and to share experiences with others,” says Sophie, reflecting on what the sense of community meant to her as she was starting out.
Jon-Luke agrees, describing the training as an essential stepping stone: “It gave me the skills and confidence – as well as the contacts – to do what I‘m doing now. I didn’t know anything about film and tv and the logistics of this before, but now I feel really empowered to take on roles in this sector.”
Romy and Kaitlyn echo the excitement, both also acknowledging that the small, local productions and regional networks they encountered over the year were essential parts of their journeys.
The West has always had a reputation for storytelling — and now, through All Set West, it’s backing a new wave of homegrown talent ready to join crews contributing to the UK’s biggest productions, many of which are made right here in the region.
Our Training draws on the incredible talent in our region’s Film and TV ecosystem – the tutors, the local DOPs, the costume supervisors, the runners – who take the time to lift others up.
These four trainees represent the diverse voices and fresh perspectives we’re here to support, to shape our region’s reputation as a powerhouse for film and TV.
Jon-Luke, Kaitlyn, Romy and Sophie — we’re cheering you on as you step onto set and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you!
