We’re really proud to celebrate our recent collaboration with two fantastic short films by talented local filmmakers – projects that not only showcase creative excellence, but also the power of community, opportunity and skills development.

Earlier this year, we supported All Set West trainees to take up placements on two locally shot short films: Roisin & Raela and Tor Lewa.

Both productions warmly welcomed All Set West trainees into their crews, offering invaluable hands-on experience in supportive, professional environments. For many of our trainees, stepping onto a live set is a pivotal moment – where learning becomes doing, and ambition turns into real-world confidence.

“I really valued the opportunity to work as a Grip Trainee on Paul Holbrook’s film. I’ve worked with Paul before on one of his previous projects, so it was great to reconnect and see some familiar faces on set. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and supportive. I learned a lot about the Grip department, particularly from the grip Jon, who took the time to explain processes, equipment, and the wider responsibilities of the role. It gave me a much stronger understanding of how essential the department is in supporting camera and lighting, and how crucial it is to the overall flow of a shoot.”

Her experience highlights exactly what these placements are designed to achieve – meaningful learning, mentorship and a deeper understanding of how each department contributes to filmmaking.
